August 1, Fineko/abc.az. A sudden influx of undocumented migrants from Morocco into the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta in North Africa has sparked widespread concern and heated debates among European nations over border security.

Several EU member states have called for strict measures and increased external border controls:

• Italy, Finland, and Denmark: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni warned that uncontrolled migration directly threatens European security, stating Italy is prepared to take extraordinary measures, including suspending the Schengen agreement with Spain. Interior Minister of Finland Mari Rantanen and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen backed the proposal, stressing that countries failing to protect external borders strain the bloc.

• Germany: Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt urged Spain to immediately restore full control over the external border and deport illegal migrants back to Morocco without delay.

• France and the UK: French President Emmanuel Macron expressed readiness to assist Spain through Frontex while instructing internal authorities to tighten controls along the French-Spanish border. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham described the footage from Ceuta as deeply concerning.

• Spain’s Response: Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares rejected criticism from Rome, stating, "We expect European solidarity, not partisan demagoguery." Albares confirmed ongoing diplomatic contacts with Morocco to manage border security and ensure prompt readmission of migrants.
