Nikkei Rises, Topix Declines Amid Geopolitical Risks and AI Demand

21:42 - 30.07.2026

July 30, Fineko/abc.az. Tokyo benchmarks closed mixed for a second straight session: the Nikkei 225 rose 0.71% to 61,867.43, while the broader Topix index slid 0.54% to 3,952.50.

The Nikkei was lifted by strong earnings from AI and semiconductor companies—led by Advantest Corp (+10.85%), along with solid gains from NEC Corp and Hitachi—and aided by a technical rebound following recent pullbacks. However, broader market sentiment remained capped by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and rising oil prices.

Financial stocks, including Nomura, faced selling pressure, alongside declines in Socionext and Nikon Corp.
