Toyota retains global leadership in car sales in 1st half of 2026

July 31, Fineko/abc.az. Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor sold 5.39 million cars worldwide for Jan-Jun 2026, retaining its status as the largest automaker in the world for the 7th consecutive time.

According to company's report, global sales declined by 2.8% versus Jan-Jun 2025, but Toyota outperformed its closest competitor, Volkswagen AG.  Sales of the German company fell by 8.4%, reaching 4.13 million units.

Key points:

• Domestic and international markets: Sales in Japan grew by 4.4% to 1.1 million vehicles. Overseas sales dropped by 4.5% to 4.3 million vehicles.

• Regional dynamics: Toyota sales in the U.S. increased by 0.9%, while they fell by 17.1% in China and by 21.6% in the Middle East.
