According to Bloomberg, officials in Beijing are alarmed by the cyber-attack capabilities embedded in top US systems and are questioning why Anthropic continues to block Chinese users from accessing these technologies even for standard civilian applications.

Tensions are further compounded by potential trade sanctions. The US Treasury recently warned of sanctions against Beijing-based Moonshot AI over intellectual property theft concerns. While China's Ministry of Commerce vowed to respond with all necessary counter-measures, sources indicate Beijing does not currently plan immediate retaliatory action against Anthropic.
