August 4, Fineko/abc.az. US President Donald Trump has criticized American energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron, saying they are making super profits amid rising oil prices. He underlined that companies should share part of their income with consumers and reduce retail fuel prices.
Answering questions from journalists in the Oval Office, Trump noted that he does not like it when corporations earn too much amid shortage of supply.
Stressing that he himself is a proponent of free market economy, the US president stated: "When you see that company's profit has increased significantly compared to last year, some of this money should be returned to people. It's better for them to lower consumer prices. It's a lot of money, and I'm not happy with that."
According to financial reports released on July 31, ExxonMobil's net profit in the 2nd quarter grew by 105.1% year-on-year up to $14.5 billion, while Chevron's profit jumped by 384.8% up to $12.1 billion.
