July 30, Fineko/abc.az. The US Federal Reserve System (Fed) has kept the key interest rate in the range of 3.50-3.75% at the end of the July meeting, which coincided with market expectations.
This is the longest period of a pause in the Fed's interest rate cycles since 2008.
Key points:
• Split in the FOMC: The decision was made by 9 votes to 3. The heads of the Dallas, Cleveland and Minneapolis Fed voted for a 25-basis-point rate hike. This is the first time since 2016 that three members of the Committee have expressed disagreement in favor of a hike.
• Kevin Warsh's statement: Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said that the regulator will not compromise on the inflation target, and its recovery will take time. Warsch added that if the price pressure remains high, an increase in interest rates remains a possible scenario.
