July 27, Fineko/abc.az. Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili stated that if the European Union abolishes the consensus principle in its decision-making process, the purpose of EU membership for smaller states will be lost.

According to Papuashvili, shifting to qualified majority voting threatens the foundational values of the bloc, transforming it from a union of equal partners into a system dominated by major powers. He emphasized that candidate nations are being offered a pre-altered model rather than equal integration, where political leverage and influence rights are constrained while institutional duties remain heavy.
