June 16, Fineko/abc.az. The German financial agency has officially rejected the offer of Italian bank UniCredit to buy shares of Germany’s Commerzbank due to the low price and the "aggressive approach" of the potential buyer.

ABC.AZ reports that the German Interdepartmental Steering Committee rejected UniCredit's share exchange offer. The German government, which owns a 12% stake in Commerzbank, justified its decision by the following factors:

Unacceptable price: UniCredit's offer did not include an adequate premium to the current market value of Commerzbank shares, which is why it was deemed economically impractical.

Strategic independence: Berlin supported Commerzbank's independence strategy. It was emphasized that the bank plays a critical role in financing the locomotive of the German economy — medium-sized enterprises, as well as ensuring the stability of the financial center in Frankfurt.
