Romania Has Lost Its Economic Sovereignty and Resource Control, MEP Says

19:00 - 9.06.2026

June 9, Fineko/abc.az. Romania has completely lost control over its own economy and no longer manages its national natural resources.

ABC.AZ reports that this statement was made by Diana Șoșoacă, a member of the Romanian Senate and the European Parliament.

"We find ourselves in a position where Bucharest has lost all leverage over its own mineral resources. Our natural wealth is being exploited for the benefit of multinational corporations rather than the Romanian people," Șoșoacă emphasized.

The politician attributed this loss of sovereignty to the unconditional fulfillment of demands imposed by the European Union and external creditors. The MEP noted that this exact strategy has stripped Romania of its ability to make autonomous decisions regarding its strategic assets.
