June 9, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has implemented a balanced approach to tariffs based on MCC codes (Merchant Category Code), aimed at stimulating non-cash payments and reducing business costs.
ABC.AZ reports that Tofig Ajirgayev, Chief Software Engineer of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, stated this at the X International Financial and Banking Summit.
According to the new tariffs, the maximum rate for transactions in grocery stores and pharmacies is set at 1.25%, for gas stations - 0.75%, and for other categories of MCC codes - up to 1.5%.
According to Ajirgayev, the changes are designed to lower the costs of acquiring banks, create prerequisites for reducing commissions for entrepreneurs and promote the further expansion of non-cash payments.
He noted that when determining tariffs, the balance of interests of acquiring banks, issuing banks and business representatives was taken into account.
