June 9, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Department of State is preparing to launch a pilot program that will allow applicants for tourist and business visas (B-1/B-2) to receive expedited interview appointments at a number of embassies and consulates for an additional fee.
ABC.AZ reports, citing news agency Associated Press, that within the new initiative, applicants will be able to pay an additional $750 (above the standard fee of $185) to receive an interview date within 10 days of payment.
Dates: The program is expected to be officially announced this week and will operate in a test mode from July 1 to December 31, 2026. The list of participating diplomatic missions will be announced before the start of the project.
No guarantee of approval: This fee is voluntary. The purchase of a premium service only guarantees a quick appointment of an interview date, but it does not affect the consul's decision to issue the visa itself.
The move is aimed at reducing huge interview queues, which in some countries exceed a year, as well as simplifying travel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
