IMF Chief Warns: The World is Not Ready for Frequent Global Shocks

22:00 - 8.06.2026

June 8, Fineko/abc.az. International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned that the global economy has faced consecutive crises in recent years, and the global system has yet to fully internalize this new reality of frequent shocks.

ABC.AZ reports, citing Georgieva's interview with Bloomberg, that the IMF will release its updated global economic growth projections in July. Touching upon the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), she emphasized that the mistakes of the globalization era—where communities that lost jobs were left behind—must not be repeated during this technological transition.

Key Highlights:

  • Russia Mission Postponed: The IMF's annual Article IV economic review for Russia has been delayed due to geopolitical sensitivities and pushback from several EU nations. Georgieva stated that Russia remains reluctant to provide trade data, but regular assessments will resume at some point.

  • Financial Support for Ukraine: The Fund continues its financial backing for Ukraine under reform conditions, having deployed USD 15.6 billion in 2023 and USD 8.1 billion in the current year.
